SQ Classes

Competition vehicle classification rules for Mobile Audio Sound Quality events.

Default Rule

  • If a class does not explicitly allow something, then it is NOT allowed.
  • Higher classes are allowed everything lower classes are.
  • OEM through ProMod must retain OEM driving location and must be drivable by an individual from that location.
  • Speaker sizes are determined by diameter of cone as measured from half surround.
  • Dash pods are considered to be any fabricated item that is taller than .75 inches above the dash surface.
  • Any driver size can be put into an OEM location as long as no other rule is violated for a given class.
  • External 12v specific processing allowed.
  • Up to 2" speaker in A-pillar, quarter window, custom free standing pods, or sail panels. Large flange tweeters allowed. Only one additional driver per pillar unless the pillar had OEM tweeters.
  • Kick panels up to 6.5" driver.
  • HLCD allowed.
  • Any modifications under OEM locations can be made.
  • Grills may be modified or replaced for acoustic reasons, but may not exceed the OEM size and must still be a grill. They may exceed the height of OEM grill by no more than .5".
  • Oval drivers: 5x7 can be replaced with up to a 6.5". 6x9 can be replaced with up to an 8". Cutting allowed to accommodate this rule.
  • Can change double din to a single din.
  • Can add dampening and sound treatments not visible behind panels.
  • Commercial dash mats allowed.
  • Single cab trucks will allow sub enclosures under seat or against back walls.
  • Convertibles with NO trunk space when the top is retracted may have a behind the seat sub enclosure.
  • Extended cab and crew cab will allow under back seat or against back wall.
  • Trunks may have house subwoofer enclosures or IB installation. No metal cutting allowed for IB install.
  • 50 square inches of dash may be modified for dash pods or dash openings. This can be split between dash corners at 25 each or used to add a center channel or whatever.
  • Dash pods may house up to 3" driver.
  • A-Pillar, sail panel or quarter window may house up to and including 3" driver (as defined by the cone diameter) and 1.1" (28mm) tweeter.
  • Kick panels up to 8" speaker.
  • Doors up to 8" (unless OEM is larger, then may replace with same size or smaller speaker).
  • Cutting material allowed to accommodate an existing rule. e.g. opening up an existing speaker hole, moving material under a dash grill, etc.
  • Cutting material for IB subwoofer installation. Examples include rear decks, trunk floors, cabin flooring.
  • Modified 110v processors allowed.
  • Seat rail extensions allowed.
  • OEM vehicles equipped with up front subwoofers allowed if the location and overall enclosure size is maintained.
  • Up front passenger footwell subs allowed. Dash subs still move to ProMod.
  • Rear seat may be deleted.
  • Dash pods may house up to 4" driver.
  • A-Pillar, sail panel or quarter window may house up to and including 4" driver (as defined by the cone diameter) and up to 2" tweeter. If you have a 3" driver and a larger than 1.1" tweeter, this rule applies.
  • Center console subwoofers.
  • Up front subwoofers in any location forward of the B-pillars.
  • Custom built dash mats are allowed up to a thickness of 3/4".
  • Full custom doors.
  • Cabin cutting allowed, beyond IB subwoofers. This means putting a hole in the cabin where one did not already exist. You are venting outside the cabin, regardless of where that hole leads to.
  • Anything goes, your imagination is the limit as long as the vehicle is safe to operate and can drive into the lanes under its own power.
